HANNspree Style LCD TV range

At first glance they may seem more post-war lounge than post-millennium pad, but these TVs are no mere exercise in retrophilia - they are in fact part of the new Style LCD TV range from manufacturer HANNspree. And while the designs are shameslessly 1950s, HANNspree has gone back to the future adding an HD Ready spec, HDMI input and fairly nippy 8ms response rate.

Highlights from the Style range include the HANNSlounge LCD TV (pictured left). The HANNSlounge's retro look comes courtesy of a wooden walnut shell, leather effect front-end and polished aluminium alloy, deer-horn shaped stand. The HANNSlounge line-up includes 26in (679), 32in (769) and 37in (999) models.

Another interesting little number is the pop art inspired 32in HANNSvibe LCD TV (pictured right - 729), complete with a black and white oval arch shaped look that cleverly incorporates two detachable speakers with two metres of cable for extra convenience.

SAMSUNG, Time Warner Cable And Advance/Newhouse Join Together To ...

Samsung, Time Warner Cable and Advance/Newhouse Communications announced that interactive digital cable services are now live on the Samsung HL-S5686C Open Cable Application Platform (OCAPTM) compliant DLP HDTV and SMT-H3050 High Definition Set-top Boxes (HDSTB) in Time Warner Cable's New York City systems, and will soon be expanding to other Time Warner Cable cities, including Milwaukee, WI, and cities covered by Advance/Newhouse's Bright House Networks cable systems.

The announcement was made concurrent with the opening night of Time Warner Cable's Home to the Future exhibit. Home to the Future (www.hometothefuture.com) is a four-story, interactive installation built inside the Time Warner Center at New York City's Columbus Circle that opens to the public January 17 and lasts for three weeks.

Current LCD TV Technology Set To Become Obsolete

By mid 2007 every LCD TV currently being sold will be old technology and vendors who get their new models to market first will benefit from the development of the new technology which was on show at the recent CES show.

There has been the dramatic improvements in LCD panel technology with every major manufacturer introducing a 120Hz model, along with claimed improvements in contrast, colour reproduction, and noise reduction. Each of these innovations is striking, but when combined in one year they make for a dramatic change in the performance of LCD panels.

The 120Hz overscan virtually eliminates the motion blurring that occurred on 60Hz LCD models. In scenarios where the content is panning there is a dramatic benefit from having the additional frame generated.

PC to TV media swapping made super-simple

Slashgear: I've a shudder-inducing feeling that my own personal purgatory will be a nightmarish bombardment of acronyms and abbreviations.  Seriously, is there any other industry so in love with initials and oddly-constructed names?  Well, the latest to offend my eyes is USBTV, basically a USB memory stick with built-in video encoder and video line-out.

Tech-shy users slap the key into their PC, drag'n'drop a load of content onto it (which get DRM-encrypted as it transfers) and then either slot it into an LCD or Plasma TV which has a compatible USBTV USB port, or use the cradle and a bog-standard video-out cable.

It might sound bland - and compared to wireless media streamers, it is - but it's obviously caught the attention of LG, Mitsubishi, Philips, Pioneer and Zoran who have all jumped into bed with Sandisk.
