| Pacific Media Reports Fourth Quarter 2006 HDTV Sales Doubled ...
The move to higher resolution models was clearly demonstrated by the fact that 1080p models accounted for nearly one-third of the total unit sales, and the majority of these were LCD models. 1080p demand has grown rapidly; just six months ago, it accounted for just 5% of the total unit sales. Sony was the top-selling brand in consumer flat panel displays 30-inches or larger, with Samsung close behind in both unit and revenue share. The best-selling consumer model was the Panasonic TH-42PX60U, a 42 plasma HDTV with an average street price of $1,331. BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Though two Midwest teams will be the center of attention in the homes of millions this Sunday, states such as Mississippi are taking the most advantage of this season's great values on large format HDTVs. Despite production cuts, large LCD panel prices plunge
A major slowdown in demand for large-sized TFT-LCDs in December for all applicationstelevisions, monitors and notebookstriggered a faster-than-expected fall in panel prices for the month and for January, according to iSuppli Corp. Price erosion is expected to continue through the first quarter because of the seasonally slow market conditions. However, monitor and notebook panel prices may stabilize by the end of the second quarter, iSuppli predicts. Television panel prices, on the other hand, will continue to decline through the second quarter due to increased production from newer-generation LCD fabs. "It's a cause for concern that many panel suppliers reduced their fab utilization rates to 80 to 85 percent in December through January, down from 95 percent and higher in November, to prepare for the traditionally slow seasonyet this failed to stop the steep fall in panel prices that we have seen in December and early in the first quarter," said Sweta Dash, director of LCD and projection research at iSuppli.
