| Envision Launches New 15 and 19-inch HDTVs
Envision is launching their new L19W461 19-inch monitor and the L15X661 15-inch monitor today. Both of these TVs are being marketed as perfect additions to your kitchen, dorm room, bedroom or office. Each TV will feature integrated ATSC (HDTV) tuners and HDMI inputs in addition to other connections. The L19W461 19-inch TV features a wide-screen 16:10 format and boasts a 1440x900 picture resolution and 800:1 contrast ratio, in addition to its 5ms response rate. The L15X661 15-inch TV has a maximum picture resolution of 1024x768 and a contrast ratio of 500:1 in addition to an 8ms response rate. So what's the price for these new TVs? Pretty reasonable. You can expect to dish out $399 for the 19-inch and $299 for the 15-inch. We suspect that the street price for these two TVs will be considerably less though, so make sure you shop around.
The ABCs of HDTV
Chicago fans swamped TV stores in recent weeks snapping up high-definition TVs to catch their beloved Bears in the Super Bowl. But it's price driving the sale of HDTV in Canada. As one Hamilton Future Shop staffer puts it, you might see HDTVs fly out the door if it was the Stanley Cup, but lower priced technology is the big consideration. "Every year before Super Bowl, we see a bit of a rush. But mainly it's price," said Tom Roglic of East Hamilton Radio. Some plasma or LCD screen HDTVs at $6,000 last year can be had for half that today. IF YOU HAVE IT: * Check that screen. Seventy per cent of Canadians who own an HDTV aren't getting the real deal because they don't have the required HD source or cable box. That means they have the TV, but they're missing the experience.
Matsushita posts higher Q3 profit on plasma TVs
TOKYO (Reuters) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (6752.T) reported a 5 percent rise in quarterly profit, driven by robust sales of flat TVs, but it kept its full-year operating profit outlook that falls short of market expectations. Matsushita, the maker of Panasonic brand products, has been able to cut costs fast enough to keep pace with steep price falls and hold its own against liquid crystal (LCD) TV giants such as Sony Corp. (6758.T). .
LG.Philips demos 47-inch LED backlit-LCD with 1000000:1 contrast
You've already seen Samsung's new LED-backlit LCDs for 2007, now check what cross-K-town rival LG.Philips has in store. Last week's ICDL 2007 had LG.Philips demonstrating their 47-, 26-, 15.4-, 12.1-, 8-, and 7-inch LED backlit LCD panels. The big daddy 47-inch panel appears to be the guts of the LG HDTV we heard rumors about. And just like we heard, this panel brings a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and a "Mega CS" 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio for truly black, black-levels obtained though a process of local dimming. It's listed with a 500cd/m2 brightness, 178-degree viewing angle, 8-ms response, and 1.07 billion colors covering 105% of the NTSC color gamut. No word on release so we'll have to cling to the original "as early as Q2" hearsay for now. Meanwhile, the 26-inch panel brings a 1366 x 728 pixel resolution, 540cd/m2 brightness, 18,000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angle, and covers a hot 136% of the NTSC color gamut.
