Quanta Storage has won orders for slim type DVD-ROM drivers from Sony NEC with shipments to begin 1-2Q07. Quanta's alliance with Sony will exempt it from certain royalty payments. Nokia CDMA orders Compal Communications has won ODM orders for around 4M low-end CDMA phones from Nokia for 2007. Via wins UMPC processor orders from US VIA Technologies has won orders for UMPC-use processors and chipsets from OQO (US). Sony LCD TV orders Wistron has received orders for 32- and 40-inch LCD TVs from Sony with shipments to begin 2Q07. Wistron also makes LCD TVs for HP, Sharp, and Westinghouse. Apple TV digital video boxes Inventec has received orders for Apple TV digital video boxes.

January 29, 2007 - Based on HDMI v1.3 specifications, VastLane(TM) SiI9181 and SiI9185 enable HDMI(TM) source devices to connect to HDTVs with frequency operation up to 225 MHz. Three-to-one Model SiI9185 is suited for back panel of HDTV, where consumers would plug in multiple devices. Unit is used to select single HDMI or DVI signal from among 3 HDTV receiver ports. Trust launches sound stations for iPod
Two multifunctional speaker sets have been added to the Trust Made for iPod range, namely the Sound & Radio Station for iPod SP-2991Wi (www.trust.com/15133) and the Alarm Clock Radio for iPod SP-2993Wi (www.trust.com/15129). The Trust Sound & Radio Station for iPod is a stereo speaker set with an integrated digital AM/FM radio and an LCD screen for displaying the frequency. It has an output of 20 Watt RMS to ensure a full sound. It can also be used to download files from a PC or notebook without having to connect any extra cables. The Trust Alarm Clock Radio for iPod is a 4-in-1 radio alarm clock that has been specially designed for the iPod and has an impressive output of 30 Watt RMS. The alarm function can be set to play music from your own iPod, to play a specific radio station or to sound a buzzer, so that waking up becomes much more pleasant.
Super Bowl Inspires HDTV Sales Surge
Big-box stores are expecting a happy January, with the upcoming Super Bowl XLI expected to push a lot of folks who have been wavering about flat-panel TVs over the edge. A new survey buy the National Retail Federation estimates that 2.5 million Americans will buy an HDTV set in time for the game, well ahead of the 1.7 million who said they planned to upgrade for last year's game.
