High Definition TV Explained

Eighty-thousand fans will pack Dolphins Stadium this Sunday for Super Bowl XLI, more than 90 million others will watch it on TV.

Everyone wants to feel like they are at the game even if they're in their living room. The latest, and best way to do that is with a high definition TV.

Its real life, come to life on HDTV. But with so many different sizes and brands, many folks wonder which one should you choose?

"There's way too many choices now," according to Bill Nacimento, a HDTV shopper.

Circuit City Saleswoman Andrea Miller says its easier than you may think, if you get some help.

"don't be overwhelmed. Tell me your lifestyle, what will you use your TV for," says Miller.

Miller's been working at Circuit City for 7 years, and has seen every generation of TV on these shelves.

High-defination hype

HDTV, or high-definition television, is a broadcasting system which enhances picture quality up to five times and has surround-sound capabilities.

Details like pollen on a flower and fuzz on a tennis ball can be clearly seen.

Viewers will have a wider view of a football field and a more detailed view of players' movements.

Using a secondary LCD monitor as a TV

Im looking at upgrading the ancient 15" LCD to a new widescreen or a larger panel LCD. Now, being the kind of person who hates putting things to waste i'm wondering if it is possible to keep my 15" and just use it as a TV somehow, as it still works perfectly. Is this a possible option? I will soon be getting a new rig as well so any components i may require to do this could you please let me know. Thanks in advance, ace

New TV sets are good fits in small rooms

Shrinking TV dimensions are good news for small rooms. Not since the proliferation of 24-inch-deep refrigerators and blow-up beds has there been such an ally to tight space. Slim, space-saving plasma and LCD display monitors provide new installation options - and thus furniture arrangements - that were never previously possible.

The depth of a 42-inch display is only about 3 1/2 inches, and a 50-inch screen is about 4 inches deep. These sets can be hung on a wall or from a ceiling, allowing you to enjoy large-screen entertainment without losing your precious floor space.

And since the actual equipment is no longer so massive, the support piece beneath no longer has to be so overwhelming. That means the near obsolescence of hulking TV armoires. While these were a good idea when sets were bulkier, now they are definitely last year's news.
